‘This is a new standard covering requirements for all types of office and non-domestic seating, including care home, hospital, public area, hotel, hospitality, bar, cafe and restaurant furniture.

The standard replaces two previous standards: BS EN 13761: 2002 Office furniture/ Visitor chairs and BS EN 15373: 2008 Furniture – Strength, durability and safety. Requirements for non-domestic seating The standard is an amalgamation of the two previous standards, and most closely resembles EN 15373. The main changes are that the standard now only features two test levels, as opposed to EN 15373’s three levels and it now references the most current test methods. The standard also contains information about the sizes of single seat office visitor chairs, which were contained in EN 13761 Product previously tested to test level 2 or 3 of EN 15373: 2008 should meet the requirements of the new standard, however there are significantly more requirements in the new standard than were contained in EN 13761 and therefore seating conforming to this standard may need additional testing.
